"An engaging study in love and politics," July 24, could have been titled "political manipulation."
As a member of the Rensselaer County Democratic executive committee, I voted to endorse Cheryl Roberts for the 107th District Assembly seat. Following interviews with both Roberts and Keith Hammond, Roberts won the endorsement by a landslide due to her legal experience, passion and commitment to protecting the environment.
In addition to losing the Rensselaer County Democratic endorsement, Hammond also lost the endorsement of the Working Families Party. Instead of bowing out gracefully, Mr. Hammond and his fiancee, Brenda Mahar, have chosen to exploit the WFP line and confuse voters.
Respectable, reputable Democrats should exemplify actions that reflect favorably on the democratic process and the betterment of constituents instead of deceptive tactics.
