I am a firm believer that the press should exercise its First Amendment rights with care and prudence. As I read your hatchet job of an editorial "Get a grip, Mr. McLaughlin," Feb. 7, I was a bit unnerved.
I don't share the notion that Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin has deteriorated "into such an embarrassment." The assemblyman continues to be engaging in bringing his own set of morals and beliefs to the political roundtable.
The fact that his beliefs are shared by the silent majority, rather than the vocal minority, makes him a political pariah to those vocal few.
I directly support Assemblyman McLaughlin's quoted statement, "They confiscate our guns, they confiscate our freedom."
This is questioned in the editorial as a made-up or imaginary concern. Although it was not in the legislation, Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke openly about the possibility of confiscation when talk first arose of new gun control laws.
