I've read many of the comments and opinions concerning the proposed cancellation of Saturday delivery by the U.S. Postal Service. I'm perplexed that anyone would look at this as a bad decision.
We've apparently got 535 people in Congress who can't read a simple financial statement. When businesses are losing money, they have to find ways to cut overhead or go out of business. When government can't pay its bills, they take the easy way out and just raise taxes and fees.
There's absolutely no reason for Saturday delivery. People will adjust to this very quickly. Why is it that we just went through the traumatic experience of having no mail delivered on Presidents Day? This happens several times each year on those pesky Monday holidays. Where's the outcry?
We must learn that you cannot have everything in today's world of government waste. I believe we could easily live with mail delivery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and we'd survive just fine. Yes, times have changed. Much of our commerce that was previously done through the mail is now done via the Internet. It's time for us to really hold our government's feet to the fire, and insist that it live within its means. We all have to do it; why shouldn't they?
