It's not often you meet someone who dedicated his life for the benefit of others. I was saddened to read that a man who did just that had passed away late last month.
Kenneth MacDonald Jr. was the grade school basketball coach at St. Teresa of Avila School. Mr. MacDonald served as coach for 31 years and won many games and championships. But, most significantly, he served as a great mentor and positive influence to the many young men that he coached. Mr. MacDonald also served for six years in the Army National Guard.
I know there are many former players that are grieving his passing and recalling the fun times playing basketball at the St. Teresa of Avila gym. I write this letter because far too often it's the bad coaches that get all the press while the good ones go unnoticed.
Kenneth MacDonald Jr. was one of the good coaches and good guys. He will be remembered as such by those who were fortunate enough to have played for him. God bless him and his family.
