A quick search of campaign finance disclosures from state Sen. Roy McDonald reveals, as of July, more than half the money his campaign has received this past year has come from outside the district with much of that coming from New York City.
A week before the controversial gay marriage bill was passed, Sen. McDonald was undecided. Shortly after the vote, he was joined by three other turncoat Republican senators at a fundraiser hosted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Hundreds of thousands were raised for each of them. Mayor Bloomberg himself kicked in $10,300. This blatant display of "pay-to-play" politics is disgusting.
We need leaders going forward who will represent us and not the special interests of downstate. I favor his opponent, Kathy Marchione, in the Sept. 13 primary. I don't believe her integrity is for sale.
