Letter: Groups more concerned about cows than children

It is beyond ludicrous to compare healthy low-fat milk to cigarettes, as Susan Levin of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine did in her letter ("Everyone's health gains from eliminating milk," April 21).

Far from being a bold statement, this group's hyperbolic propaganda should be given all the credibility of a statement by the infamous animal liberation group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which is none.

PETA and this group have long-standing ties that go back more than two decades. Both groups are motivated by a desire for "total animal liberation" to advance the interests of cows, not necessarily children.

Further, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine was founded by Neal Barnard, co-founder and an early chairman of the Foundation to Support Animal Protection, which, according to the foundation's website, was formed to provide administrative support to PETA and other animal protection groups. This link is as clear an indication as any of the organization's radical agenda.
