Letter: Justice shouldn't serve the guilty

With reference to the editorial "To Mr. Kaczynski, in awe," April 26, which states "The philosophy that no one is an enemy should be an example to all New Yorkers," I say "Says you."

Who out there in the real world believes that no one is an enemy?

Of course we have enemies. We are human. We have enemies. There are bad guys out there, and no one is going to tell me otherwise.

The same editorial also said, "But at the Old Chancery Building in Albany, the very much settled matter of the death penalty in New York was reason to reflect upon the struggle that Mr. Kaczynski and his allies have been waging in a state enlightened enough for six years now to pursue justice in a different way."

How just is it for the state to pay tens of thousands of dollars to keep murderers and bombers alive?

It would be far more just to get rid of these people and use that money for the developmentally disabled or for struggling schools in poor neighborhoods.

This is not a question of revenge. It's a question of justice, and justice should serve the innocent.
