Letter: Advocate of fracking avoids real issues

Karen Bulich Moreau is a classic lobbyist for a multinational industry ("Scrappy voice for fracking on stage," May 5). She avoids the real issues, instead relying on trite sayings and emotional button-pushing.

The real issue is not property rights but water rights. It's one thing if you want to, say, clear cut forest on your property, but it's another thing to potentially poison the groundwater that your neighbors use.

Like a conservative politician running for office, she slings mud, relying on inflammatory language with words like "elitist." She could be called an elitist because she makes six figures and is supported by billionaire elitists in the oil and gas industry. She also uses the phrase "works with their hands" implying that only farmers like her family are real workers while, at the same time, she does not work with her hands.

She also tries to discredit science from opponents of fracking by merely saying the work has been discredited without giving any real science of her own to back up the claim.

Her tactics are like a classic politician's playbook: Don't speak to the real issues and obscure the facts.
