After reading the editorial, "You can do better, R-C-S," May 17, I felt compelled to write to you.
How do these editorials come about? I realize this is an opinion, but shouldn't it still be based on accurate, complete and up-to-date information?
The editorial points out I, "was on the wrong side of another 5-4 vote — to hire Mr. (Alan) McCartney." At the Feb. 5 Board of Eduction meeting, there was another vote, 8-0, extending his contract another year. At this time, Dr. McCartney had so impressed all the board members by doing his job in a professional, compassionate manner that the four negative votes turned to yes, all of the members more than willing to keep him on.
Also, a May 14 "Meet the Candidates" video, available on the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk website, contains information that might make the writer reconsider whether James Latter qualifies "as one of the good guys."
The editorial cast some of us in a negative light, even though our choice has proven to be a very good decision for the district. Dr. McCartney has taken the district in hand and moved us forward in a positive way.
It is time for the Times Union to leave the RCS community alone.
