Letter: The flowers certainly help beautify our area

On May 11, our paper's new press showed us a colorful view of the ceremonial street cleaning of State Street as part of the 65th annual Albany Tulip Festival. Then there was a picture of a gorgeous tulip. Mother Nature provided us, with perfect timing, an amazing color display of tulips in Washington Park, backed up by wonderful complementary flowering shrubs and trees.

In another locale, the grounds crew at the University at Albany deserve commendation for rows of daffodils decorating the main entrance. And, across the river, whether you made it to the Oakwood Cemetery's Daffodil Brunch, the flowers were worth a gander. Meanwhile, the Men's Garden Club of Albany has been planting daffodils in their memorial garden at the Cooperative Extension grounds in Voorheesville and also at their display area just east of the Interstate 90 bridge. The 4H Clubs of Rensselaer County have had a daffodil planting program each fall for three years.

Wouldn't it be great if more in our business community, our educational institutions and other community organizations were to become involved in efforts to beautify our region? Our area could become a world-wide tourist destination, as is happening in some other places.

Meanwhile, be sure to take some time to appreciate and enjoy the beauty that is all around us.
