We applaud the efforts of the University at Albany's clothing exchange and the recent Go Green event in Guilderland hosted by Karen Finnessey, the Voorheesville deputy clerk-treasurer; and Renee Panetta, Guilderland Central School District recycling and conservation coordinator.
So many volunteer hours go into making these events successful They are a great resource for local nonprofits, improving environmental sustainability and ultimately supporting local families in need.
Grassroot Givers, a local nonprofit, works to make a connection between the needs in our community and those who have resources to share. We have been fortunate enough to be the recipient of many clothing exchanges, SUNY alumni book drives as well as support from collection drives coordinated by local businesses, credit unions, banks and religious groups.
We are grateful to be able to share these donations, free of charge, at the Grassroot Givers Community Store and the Albany Book Project. We recently moved to the GWU Center (former the YMCA), 274 Washington Ave., Albany.
Grassroot Givers is excited about our next environmental community project: Renovating the old lap pool (no water) at the GWU. Complementing our mission of repurposing resources, we will be using recycled materials to transform the old pool into a beautiful new space for Grassroot Givers programs.
