Gov. Andrew Cuomo's 10-point Women's Equality Agenda will advance women's rights in New York. All the points in this agenda need to be put into law so that women living in New York can have better lives.
There is one point in particular that I have had a positive experience with and, unfortunately, I know that many women do not. Stopping pregnancy discrimination once and for all means to me that women who get pregnant will still be able to work until term because their employers will make the necessary accommodations for this to happen.
I faced this challenge a short while ago and was able to continue working until the birth of my child because my job made accommodations for me. I have heard from others that most employers don't and that the mother-to-be is no longer able to work. If an employee is not able to work due to a lack of accommodations, this will affect her income and thus affect how she will take care of the child.
If the Women's Equality Agenda is passed, many of those pregnant workers would have stability because they will be able to work through pregnancy. It is urgent that we support the Women's Equality Agenda, and the issues it addresses, including pregnancy discrimination.
