Letter: Gibson's party alienates people

A vote for Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, is a vote for his party's extreme right-wing agenda and also an endorsement for the Republican-led Congress that has earned recognition as the worst in history. Here are more reasons I will vote against him Nov. 6:

Some in his party want to privatize Social Security, turn Medicare into a voucher program and give insurance companies the right to refuse coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

Some in his party want to make contraception illegal and to force women to carry and give birth to the products of rape and incest, even if it endangers their lives.

His party wants to strip working people of the right to join together to protect their rights, negotiate for better working conditions and receive equal pay for equal work.

His party wants to convince us that the way to create jobs is to cut jobs for teachers, firefighters and police officers.

His party wants to "restore" America's standing in the world community by reinstating President George W. Bush's policies on torture, rehiring Bush's foreign policy advisers and starting up the big lie about weapons of mass destruction all over again.

His party wants to win the election by making it harder for people to vote.

So far, his party's policies and candidates have managed to alienate African-Americans, Latinos, women, the AARP, the gay community, military veterans, schoolteachers, doctors, nurses, nuns and our strongest ally, Great Britain. Who's next?
