Letter: Reasonable rules for guns in order

I am absolutely against a person who has a weapon for personal security or sports purposes losing it for political reasons. But using the judgment of others who have commercial or political reasons to ignore their own rational thinking is a sad statement about our society.

For those who blindly accept the rhetoric of the National Rifle Association and the politicians who agree with them for selfish personal support, I say they need to "man up."

For those who are paranoid and believe the government is out to get them, I have no help. But to the millions of hunters and other sport shooters, I'm saying you need to look at what the loss of effective gun management has done to the folks in this country.

The current regulations are not enforced. But look at what we do with managing automobiles. True, not every person who has a parking ticket will feel the penalty, but if you cause an injury or death to another person, you are going to be punished.

Hunters and fishermen, sports or commercial, are directed by guidelines and regulations to protect the public, each other, the game and fishery populations. What's so hard in applying licensing to all gun owners and requiring them to follow reasonable rules?

Haven't we killed enough of our people?
