Letter: Stopping terror requires snooping

In response to your editorial "Is there any privacy left?" June 10, I find it funny how people get up in arms when they hear that the government is checking phone and Internet records. People do understand the government is looking for information that will help stop a terrorist attack, right?

Do people also know that every click on the Internet is already logged and followed by many companies, especially Google and Facebook? More personal privacy information is taken by these companies to target advertising for you.

Does anyone really read the privacy statements that companies put in links, that must be opened, at the bottom of emails and Web pages? Does anyone really think these policies protect you? Does anyone really care as they should?

I fully understand my privacy is mostly gone in this smartphone world.

I want my government to protect me from the homegrown and foreign threats. That is why we pay taxes and one of the responsibilities of government.

Let the government do its job.
