Hats off to the Patriot Guard Riders for their program to give proper burial to veterans ("Never forgotten, and now at rest," June 8). Many people might not be aware that the cremated remains of thousands of individuals are stored in funeral homes and private homes all across our region. Often, it's because family members don't know what to do after cremation.
As Catholics, we are committed to the reverence of the body. Our concern for the proper care and handling of cremated remains has led to an initiative to help Catholic families by offering free placement of urns at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
On Nov. 1, Albany Diocesan Cemeteries will celebrate its annual committal service from the Rite of Christian Burial and entomb urns brought to us in the All Souls Crypt at no charge to families. Call St. Agnes Cemetery at 463-0134 for more information about the service.
