I know I am attacking a metaphor, and not the issue that Susan Reimer raises about the government and why we should not trust it/them ("Teenagers running the nation," June 24). What irks me is that she continually denigrates teenagers as liars who cannot help but exaggerate and irritate adults.
This summer, teenagers in my English class will write to this very newspaper to enter into the public dialogue in the Perspective section of the Times Union. Imagine, if they began reading on Monday, June 24, what they would think of this attack on their age group.
I have found that teens do lie, just as their parents and teachers and preachers do. Teens try to avoid confrontation, and sometimes lie just to see if they can get away with it. As do most of us, at one time or another.
