Letter: Albany should learn from Quebec accident

The tragic oil tanker accident in Quebec should be a warning to Albany, where thousands of gallons of gasoline and crude oil, among other unknown chemicals, travel by tanker car along Interstate 787 in and out of the Port of Albany.

Is the infrastructure up to par to protect us from a derailment? I hope so, but my confidence is shaken after viewing the rock crumbling away beneath the supports that hold up the Amtrak railroad bridge over Broadway. You can view the cracked supporting rock walls and its pieces falling to the sidewalk along the east side of Broadway at Colonie Street. Almost half of one metal bearing is no longer supported by the wall.
