Letter: Church not bound by gender equality

In spite of Pope John Paul II's instructions that the subject of female ordination is closed to discussion, proponents continue to drumbeat for approval. These reject the teaching authority of the church they portend to faithfully belong to.

The church is not bound by today's fad of gender equity in all things. It must be said that everybody isn't entitled to everything.

As one wise old man (not woman) once told me, "You either have an organization or you don't." If Mary Theresa Streck and her adherents can't agree and defy church law, let them cease calling themselves Catholic and join alleged Christian denominations that adhere to "everything goes" ("'Joyous passage' also seeks change," June 2).

There is not now, never was, nor will there ever be woman priests. Give the issue up.
