In March 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This law, as passed by Congress, included a provision mandating employers who have more than 50 employees to provide health insurance.
Recently, the president delayed this aspect of the law for a year. There are two problems with this:
Millions of Americans were depending on the employer-mandated insurance as a means of meeting their own obligation. If we are to delay the employer mandate, we should also delay the individual mandate.
This should be an act of Congress. The president cannot arbitrarily change laws that have been passed by Congress. If this is the case, then what is to stop the next president from eliminating all or part of the Affordable Care Act?
