There has been much discussion whether to build a convention center or an aquarium in Albany. I certainly enjoyed the recent commentary from Gene Bunnell ("Back to the river, Albany," Aug. 11) and agree with him wholeheartedly that an aquarium should be the route of choice for Albany, especially at this time in Albany's need to revitalize itself and draw visitors to the city.
My husband and I enjoy aquariums very much and have visited many states and their aquariums. We even flew to Atlanta just to visit its aquarium, which was the best we have ever been to.
An aquarium will draw visitors to Albany and will, more than likely, also provide increased visits to other local venues such as the State Museum and our many historical sites. A convention center? Not hardly. I wouldn't even consider coming to Albany to visit a "convention center."
