Letter: Let's capitalize on Albany's history

I've been in Albany since 1953 and cannot remember how many times I've heard of plans to attract tourists to Albany drown in public apathy.

A capital city should have a convention center; even the scaled-down version, which actually makes more sense. We also need a vision for improving the attractiveness of our waterfront.

Plans were once drawn up to recreate Fort Orange, yet we demolished one site to put in an office building. We need to embrace our history and make people want to come to visit. What we need is a political visionary to make it happen. Entrenched politicians rarely think outside the box. Let's try to get someone who can.

The Times Union needs to continue to lead the way by calling attention to what other similar-sized cities have done.
