Letter: Let's not relive the Bush years

Does anyone remember the savings & loan bailout during President George H.W. Bush's administration? How about the Gulf War?

Then we had President George W. Bush's administration, during which we invaded Iraq and bailed out the banks again. Wasn't there also some talk about investing Social Security funds into the stock market during this administration? We all know how that would have turned out. And didn't we give tax cuts to the wealthy during this administration?

Now, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is telling us that he and his running mate (who is an opponent of Medicare) are going to protect Medicare and Social Security. And that he is concerned about the middle class. Does that include the 47 percent? I do believe he is sincere when he says that he will protect the tax cuts for the wealthy.

Four weeks prior to Election Day, Mr. Romney has done a 180-degree turn on Medicare and Social Security. Meanwhile, Mr. Romney has also stated he doesn't like our foreign policy. What country does he want to invade? Iran.

If we do not learn from our mistakes we are destined to repeat them.
