Last year, Kathy Schongar wrote a poignant article about the Sisters of Mercy ("Sisters of Mercy a model of ministry," Aug. 25, 2012). In September, the Sisters will celebrate their 150th anniversary of dedicated service and commitment to the people of the Capital Region and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.
Many of us have received education, medical care, pastoral ministry, food and shelter from these women.
As the area is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Saratoga Race Course, I hope we also remember, with deep gratitude, the service of these humble women.
On Sept. 29 at 2 p.m., there will be a celebration at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
I personally want to offer my sincere love and gratitude to the Sisters who continue to bless our area with their presence.
