I am a registered Republican living in Saratoga County. I want to pose a question to Jeff Gildersleeve: What laws, other than the SAFE Act, will you not enforce?
Mr. Gildersleeve, what happens if my home is burglarized and you are the sheriff? Will you instruct your deputies to play judge and jury and decide during an investigation there is no basis for an arrest because you deem the penal law to be unconstitutional?
We need a sheriff who will be decisive and recognize the importance of the role to which he has been elected. A sheriff is not vested with the legal authority to decide which laws are constitutional and which aren't. That decision is left to the judicial system.
As a registered Republican, I cannot endorse a candidate whose platform is to insist he will be vested with the legal authority to make decisions that are best left to the lawmakers and the court system.
Mr. Gildersleeve, you are wrong. I fear for our residents in Saratoga County if you are elected sheriff. For this reason, I am putting my support behind Michael Zurlo.
