Letter: Give everyone a good cable deal

That people are dissatisfied with Time Warner Cable ("Turned off by cable bills," Aug. 31) is not hard to understand. Just take a company that overcharges for everything, has poor customer service, and uses questionable sales practices. Think your bill is too high? Call to say you are thinking of switching to Direct TV, etc.; be persistent; and, finally, they will reduce your bill for six to 12 months.

Why not, Time Warner, just give everyone the best deal? I don't know anyone who pays the same amount for the same thing from Time Warner. It's like these "customer specialists" are there to figure out how little does a customer's bill have to be reduced to keep him/her as a customer.

The government needs to pass legislation allowing people to pick and choose what channels and services they want to buy from cable companies, instead of allowing these companies to bill people for channels that only hold interest for a few. I'm willing to bet that most people don't watch more than 25 channels at the most. If you could buy just the channels you wanted, bills would be reduced by more than half and people could afford to have a phone.
