Frank Masten in his Oct. 17 letter, "High gas prices tied to election," contends oil companies are keeping the price of gas at $4 a gallon to get Mitt Romney elected president. He states: "The oil companies want us to think of President Barack Obama every time we pump this $4 a gallon gas ... you soon realize the oil companies want to see Mitt Romney in the White House."
Even though this stretches the bounds on logical thought, if Mr. Masten had stopped his point here, the argument could have been made. It is obvious the Republican Party has always been on the side of big business. It also has a close relationship with the oil companies.
Where the argument falls off the cliff, however, is when Mr. Masten goes on to say, "If you think gas prices will drop in a Romney White House, think again. ... The oil companies will want to be paid back for getting Romney elected."
Let me get this straight: The oil companies want to keep gas prices high to get Romney elected but will then keep them high, which, according to Mr. Masten, would get him voted out of office four years from now. Illogical.
