Letter: Resume doesn't mean vet infallible

I read with interest "Loving care interpreted as animal abuse?" June 24, regarding the prosecution of Gerard Sagliocca. The gist was that he and his sister were instructed to have their pet destroyed. It was assumed Mr. Sagliocca and his sister were wrong, and veterinarian Holly Cheever correct based on her resume.

Most people who share their homes with dogs and cats, as I have, know they are like family. Assuming Mr. Sagliocca simply would acquiesce without question is lunacy.

A couple of years ago, I took my beloved mutt Holly to a reputable and respected veterinarian. In fact, I took her to this professional eight times in 51/2 months and spent more than $2,000.

I had to carry Holly into the office at the last visit; she was obviously dying. The vet was clueless.

His assistant pointed out what she saw as an obvious tumor. Our Holly died that night from a condition that could have been curable if treated properly.

The point is: A great resume gives limited information about a person. It doesn't make him or her an icon with the final word of right and wrong.
