Bob Bethel's biblical denunciation of same-sex marriage ("Bible denounces gay relationships," Oct. 31) is patently offensive.
Anyone who prefaces their beliefs with "God says" and supports their position with biblical references is blindly following the dictates of human beings who interpreted and recorded their observations of events that occurred thousands of years ago. How that got to be "the word of God," I will never understand.
Ignorance about human sexuality is on full display in many historical texts, including the Bible. Fortunately, human research and understanding on that subject continues to evolve while the "pray away the gay" mindset remains a deep dark pit of ignorance.
Those who try to dictate social policy by using "God's instructions" are effectively endorsing theocracy as a form of government, which I will fully support if and when God appears on Earth, clearly demonstrates that he or she is God and declares Mr. Bethel's position to be valid.
Until then, I hope that rational thinking will prevail and blunt the myopic prejudiced beliefs of those who choose to simply follow and question nothing.
