Sixty-four years ago, I registered as a Republican. I had the youthful naivete to believe it was a party of gentlemen. Almost two years ago, I left the Republican Party. I'm now an unenrolled voter.
This is why I changed parties: Almost from Day 1 after President Barack Obama's election in 2008, I began receiving letters from various Republican politicians. These letters gave their suspicions regarding Obama as facts. I thought, "They are sore losers; I'm switching parties."
This election, I was thankful for the Electoral College, though I do wonder whether it should be eliminated and that votes, sent to a neutral collection point, be counted singly. JEAN COWAN
