Letter: Time for Draves to give it up

Failed Assembly candidate Michele Draves is off the mark in her letter "Tedisco needs to take some action," Nov. 14. Assemblyman Jim Tedisco has taken action from the beginning to oppose the outrageous 45 percent Thruway toll hike for truckers.

Tedisco called out the Thruway Authority for bypassing the Capital Region in its round of public hearings on the toll hike and then he and his colleagues held their own hearing in September when the Thruway refused to listen to taxpayers and businesses in our area.

Tedisco also is sponsoring legislation to take away from the bureaucrats in the Thruway Authority the power to raise tolls and give it to our Legislature's elected representatives who are held accountable by voters.

The assemblyman's opposition to the toll hike, and lack of transparency from the Thruway Authority, certainly is in part responsible for helping to scuttle two planned meetings where its finance committee likely would have voted for the increase.

Mr. Tedisco overwhelmingly defeated Ms. Draves on Election Day. She should move on because no one likes a sore loser.
