Letter: Firm's expansion ignores impact

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, a Rensselaer County business, is adding 300 jobs. Although the woefully inadequate state of the county's sewer system is mentioned in the Times Union's story ("Local drugmaker expanding by 300 jobs," Nov. 14), the environmental impact of this expansion is being ignored.

The Rensselaer County sewer system has been over capacity for years, yet they are allowed to operate on a day-to-day basis and add an additional burden to the system. The county regularly dumps raw sewage into the Hudson River. To now add the impact of 300 more people is unconscionable.

I understand jobs are important, but so is the environment. We cannot continue the practice of ignoring the environmental impact of our decisions.
