Letter: Get over election; work for nation

I am disappointed in Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who are opposing Susan Rice, United Nations ambassador, as a candidate for secretary of state.

Already, they have threatened to hold hostage any potential nomination. They want a broad Watergate- and Iran-Contra-style investigation of alleged intelligence and security lapses surrounding the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.

Where were these senators when former Secretary of State Colin Powell was telling the United Nations and the world that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?

Sen. McCain voted in October 2002 to authorize use of force in Iraq. Talk about alleged intelligence and security lapses. Then, Senator McCain waited for Colin Powell's endorsement of President Barack Obama's second term to slam Mr. Powell for getting us into Iraq.

If these senators want to go after something: Thousands of troops are huddled on the Israel border; and we are just a few weeks away from putting the country into another recession.

These senators need to get over the presidential election, stop playing games and get to the people's work.

Over the last two years, Congress has done nothing. Now, it is time for all in Congress to do what is right for our country.
