It's time for New York to start a massive works program aided by the federal government to repair our transportation infrastructure while also improving utility transmission, water reservoirs and sewage treatment.
Think of the Works Progress Administration as a model. Veterans and others would be able to get back to work, making our state a better and safer place to live.
Instead of paying out millions every week to those out of work, this money could be used to put the unemployed back to work. And the federal government should be happy to do this. Most states need help in all these areas.
This country needs a boost, something to get us going in the right direction. Everyone needs to learn that old saying: It's not what's coming in that keeps you going; it's what you don't spend that does the job.
It's time to tighten our belts and get down to work again. It will be a great way to start the new year.
