The article "Neglect in fire death of tot," Nov. 28, troubles me on several levels.
The mandate of Family Court is to determine what's "in the best interests of the child." Yet, it seems Albany County officials are holding that family's children hostage until the parents meet "all of the requirements." The article states that county officials agreed, "in recognition of the family's cooperation," to double the family's visitations with the children from one hour to two.
How could it be helpful to children who have lost a sibling and their home to also lose the presence of their parents?
I am also concerned that I haven't seen any action taken against the landlord. It is not uncommon for tenants to use their stoves when the heat provided by the landlord is insufficient. I don't condone this, but I recognize its reality.
Where's city code enforcement?
