Our mother was killed and father severely injured in October 2005, when the Ethan Allen capsized on Lake George.
On Nov. 29, New York's highest court decided the victims of the tragedy have no adequate remedy and, incredibly, there can be no recourse against the state employees who failed to do their jobs because there was no "special duty" to those who were harmed ("Ethan Allen lawsuit tossed," Nov. 30). The court also determined government employees will not be liable if they never make any decisions in the performance of their employment.
The effect of the court's ruling is that no government employee will ever be held accountable for failing to exercise judgment or for engaging in conduct that harms another.
The king can do no wrong, and citizens and visitors alike should be very, very concerned.
