Letter: Webb at the Hall endearing, indeed

A friend and I were among the audience for the Judy Collins and Jimmy Webb concert Dec. 6 at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

Though we were eager to hear Judy Collins, I feel strongly that Greg Haymes was exaggerating when he stated that "many in the crowd ... felt that Webb overstayed his welcome as the concert opener" and that "[Webb] tended to ramble way past the point of patience of most members of the audience" ("Judy Collins delights Troy crowd," Dec. 8).

On the contrary, my friend and I enjoyed him tremendously. Mr. Webb was charming, endearing, a superlative storyteller and an excellent singer. I'll always remember his story of going to meet Frank Sinatra at his house and chasing 8-track tapes that had fallen out of his bag down the driveway.

It isn't often that one has the opportunity to hear two great singers in one evening. Judy Collins was, absolutely, the piece de resistance, and her elegance and luminescence made one equally appreciative of the stellar performance of Mr. Webb. It was an evening long to be remembered due to the diverse and prodigious talents of both.
