Letter: Don't quote Bible for own agenda

Many people read the Bible, especially during the Christmas season. Many people over the past several years denounced homosexuality by quoting Leviticus 18:12 of the Old Testament.

I would like to quote a few other writings in the Old Testament:

Leviticus 25:44 — "If you need slaves, you buy them from the nations around you."

Leviticus 11:10 — "Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales must not be eaten."

Leviticus 21:18 — "No man with any physical defect may make an offering: no one who is blind, lame, disfigured, or deformed can present an offering to God."

Exodus 21:7 — "If a man sells his daughter as a slave, she is not to be set free as male slaves are."

Exodus 35:2 — "You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is to be sacred. Anyone who does work on that day is to be put to death."

My point: Let's not quote a section of the Bible just to promote one's own personal agenda, feelings and beliefs. Times and cultures have changed. In fact, many Christians believe that God loves all his children (creations).

I'd like to end by asking a question of those who quote Leviticus 18:22:

When was the last time you did work on the Sabbath or ate any kind of shellfish? Let's not be hypocrites.
