I was astonished reading the article about the raid by investigators, including some from the state attorney general's office, on Father Peter Young's organization ("Offices raided; priest wonders why," Dec. 15).
Father Young has done more for recovering addicts, former convicts and the homeless than anyone I know. Father Young has spent a lifetime helping others.
Does the AG's office not understand how bad this makes it look in the eyes of the general public? What possible justification could there be for a full-blown raid on a nonprofit run by an 82-year-old priest with an immaculate standing in the community? What alleged heinous crime could possibly warrant this level of reaction?
It's evident reading the article that Father Young had the appropriate checks and balances in place to minimize any financial malfeasance within his organization.
