After reading "Trains' final destination: Scrap," Dec. 14, recounting the sale of the 1970s-era Amtrak Turboliners and associated parts for a grand total of $420,000, I wanted to express my anger, contempt and disgust with the state.
The state claims by selling them for scrap it is saving $150,000 in annual storage fees. This is a small amount compared to the more than $100 million spent on the rebuilding and refurbishment project.
How does the state explain or justify this sale to the taxpayers?
After reading this article, I have to ask: Is their no accountability to the taxpayers? Will our politicians continue to make financially irresponsible decisions with no means to recover lost, hard-earned taxpayer dollars?
