Letter: Kudos to Albany recreation staff

As an Albany resident, I am always looking for something in the city limits to do that is either inexpensive, or free. Most of the activities I find are at facilities operated by the Department of Recreation. In the summer, my friends and I swim at the Mater Christi pool, which is free. In the winter, we skate at the Swinburne skating rink.

With the recent criticism the department has received over the issues with Swinburne skating rink concession stand, I thought they could use some positive feedback. They offer a huge variety of programs at all of their facilities for the citizens of Albany to use.

There is a lacrosse program, a cooking program and swim club at Arbor Hill Community Center, a running club at Lincoln Park pool, which I saw work out this past summer, as well as many other programs that I hope are still going on when I have children of my own.

I want to thank the department staff for working hard each year to make sure we always have something to do. The staff at the pool and rink and parks are always friendly and helpful. My family and I want everyone to know how much we appreciate everything they do for the city.

KEELEY GAFFNEY
