Assault weapons are essentially weapons of mass destruction, designed to kill many human beings quickly and efficiently. Their availability and use should be restricted to military and police forces. They have no legitimate purpose in civilian life, and renewing restrictions on the sale of assault weapons would be a small but important step toward a safer society.
