In answer to the question "Who is that clown?" in the Jan. 21 editorial cartoon, I will tell you:
He's an American citizen, a patriot, who has taken a few precious moments from the daily task of trying to feed, clothe, house his family and educate his children (not to mention trying to pay the burdensome taxes that feed our dysfunctional federal government) to voice his opinion.
Regarding this right that is guaranteed, he has seen his rights as an American citizen eroded and ignored by a government supposedly instituted to maintain those rights.
The crisis du jour is gun control. History, statistics and studies show gun laws do little, if anything, to curb criminals and crime. Our elected officials, if they are good at anything, are well-versed in the art of ignoring inconvenient facts.
In the same issue, on the next page, is the headline "Yearly minimum wage hikes help everyone" on a commentary from David Bolotsky. Again, history, statistics and studies tell us that increases in the minimum wage are a contributing factor in the increase of unemployment among our youth. Businessmen cannot afford, under these constraints, to provide the entry-level jobs that can give these young people the experience and resume to move on to better-paying positions. Here we are again ignoring inconvenient facts.
I consider this cartoon an insult and wait for an apology. I do not own a firearm, but I reserve the right to purchase one should I wish.
