I keep opening the Times Union and finding anti-National Rifle Association editorial cartoons. Why do anti-Second Amendment propagandists always portray us (yes, I'm a NRA life member) as fat, sloppy, loud-mouthed, ignorant Archie Bunker-types?
I don't imagine the editorial board or the cartoonist have been at any of the recent rallies, but I have. Those in the crowd were polite, well-behaved, all ages, women, minorities, veterans and, yes, some middle-aged white guys with big bellies. There was no destruction, property damage or other unseemly behavior.
I find these cartoons sad and insulting and only contributing to a false image. Sadder still, however, is how many people believe the stereotype.
Funny, isn't it, how those who wish to defend what's left of our constitutional rights are now the extremists? Guess it's really an indication of just how far we, as a people and as a country, have degenerated.
