In "A Senate snag on women's rights?" Feb. 3, the Times Union correctly calls on state senators to have the courage to vote on Gov. Andrew Cuomo's women's equality agenda. No lawmaker should use the Roe vs. Wade decision as an excuse to avoid voting on the abortion provisions and other important protections for women.
It was clear in the 2012 elections that women's reproductive health care matters a great deal to New York voters. Elections were won and lost on this very issue.
Elected officials must listen to their constituents, not a vocal minority, and make pay equity, protections for victims of domestic violence, sexual harassment and human trafficking, and women's reproductive health a priority in this legislative session.
As the grandmother of six, both boys and girls, I care about the world they live in and the New York they will inherit. The Reproductive Health Act must be part of New York's future, starting now.
