In reading your critical opinion of Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin's thoughts and speech on gun controls and the governor's action ("Get a grip, Mr. McLaughlin," Feb. 7), I concur with only one thing in the editorial: That is the "heavy-handed way Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders secured passage" of this legislation.
The governor did not represent many of the people, as clearly indicated by Assemblyman McLaughlin. At least Assemblyman McLaughlin does not abandon his constituents as clearly as the governor has without regard for their opinions.
We have a dictator for the state, and it is evident he does not realize guns do not kill people; the person behind the gun is responsible. The first step should be to address the mental health of the person behind the gun issue.
Many thanks to Assemblyman McLaughlin for speaking out against the lack of common sense in this legislation sponsored by a dictatorial governor; shame on those who supported the legislation and this absurd attack on law-abiding citizens who own guns.
