Great commentary from John Wright on his solar panel installation business and the many economic benefits that developing clean energy has already had for our region ("Let the sun shine on energy," Feb. 7).
Since the production of electricity accounts for roughly a third of our nation's greenhouse gas emissions, this is an important direction for development.
Mr. Wright's business would be booming if Congress would enact a carbon tax making electricity from dirty carbon fuels more expensive and solar panel installation even more inviting to businesses and homeowners.
Congress has refused to enact a carbon tax so we are left with regulations President Barack Obama can authorize via his executive powers. These regulations will bring down our emissions, but businesses will find the regulations cumbersome, unpredictable and inefficient.
Maybe if Congress gets tired of the president pulling end runs, they'll finally enter the ball game and pass a revenue-neutral carbon tax.
