As a retired U.S. Army warrant officer and a retired high school teacher, I advocate for the $500 billion in defense cuts over the next 10 years.
I urge Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to look at these arguments:
Even after this cut and the conclusion of two wars, Pentagon spending would still be higher than it was during most of Vietnam and the Cold War.
Meanwhile, our communities need more investment in education, infrastructure and green energy — investments that will be harder to make if the Pentagon doesn't meet its fair share of deficit-reduction efforts.
I hope our senators will examine the facts and keep these planned Pentagon cuts.
