David Welch's letter ("Democrats seek to disarm nation," Feb. 14) is patently ridiculous. The Democrats have no intention of taking weapons away from the military, which would be "disarming the nation."
I would also like to address this idea that some clandestine cabal of politicians are plotting to overthrow our "freedom." It isn't politicians who want to take away guns. It is American citizens like myself.
We, the people, are sick of children being gunned down in schools. We are sick of college students being slaughtered. We are sick of ex-wives and children being murdered by vindictive spouses who lost their court cases.
Those who so loudly proclaim their "right to bear arms" and the intention to wage war within our borders over selfish desires cannot be trusted with firearms.
We don't need those guns and gun violence to protect us from a government. We do need a strong government willing to protect us from lunatics with guns who would impose their own will over us as individuals.
We desire a government that is unafraid to stand up to terrorists who seek to spill our blood in our own country.
I think that tremendously fewer than 80 million citizens would be willing to throw away their lives and the lives of their families.
