Do not think Megan's Law or the laws of New York protect children from sexual predators.
Predators only need to know what the laws are. In New York, the statute of limitations for reporting sex abuse lasts until the victim is 23. After age 23, a victim cannot legally complain.
In New York, meanwhile, no statute of limitations for rape, murder or parking tickets exists.
After a victim turns 23, molesters are shielded by New York law. Molesters stay under the radar by not being caught or prosecuted for sex offenses. They enjoy freedom to molest other kids. They plead down; they move; they are "remorseful."
Most victims of sex abuse don't deal with their abuse until their adult years or the birth of their own children, which is likely past age 23. Numerous states have moved the age limit for reporting.
It is time New York changed its law for the times we live in. Support the Child Victims Act. Children are counting on you to protect them.
